How Long Should My Workout Be?

How long should my workout be? This is a question that I get asked a lot, and it's one that I struggled with for a long time. There are a lot of factors that go into deciding how long your workout should be, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. In this post, I'm going to discuss six factors that you should consider when deciding how long your workout should be.

Intensity

How hard are you working out? Are you working out at a leisurely pace or are you going all out? The intensity of your workout will have a big impact on how long it should be. If you're working out at a high intensity, you won't be able to sustain it for very long. On the other hand, if you're working out at a low intensity, you could probably sustain it for a lot longer.

Duration

How long can you sustain the intensity of your workout? This is a big factor to consider when deciding how long your workout should be. If you can only sustain a high intensity for a short period of time, then your workout shouldn't be very long. On the other hand, if you can sustain a low intensity for a long period of time, then your workout can be longer.

Frequency

How often are you working out? If you're working out every day, then you probably don't need to have a very long workout. On the other hand, if you're only working out once a week, then you might want to have a longer workout.

Goals

What are your goals? If your goal is to lose weight, then you might want to have a longer workout. On the other hand, if your goal is to build muscle, then you might not need to have a very long workout.

Time

How much time do you have? If you only have 30 minutes, then you probably won't be able to have a very long workout. On the other hand, if you have two hours, then you might be able to have a longer workout.

Type

What type of workout are you doing? If you're doing a cardio workout, then you might want to have a longer workout. On the other hand, if you're doing a strength-training workout, then you might not need to have a very long workout.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how long your workout should be. The six factors that I've discussed - intensity, duration, frequency, goals, time, and type - are all important factors to consider when deciding how long your workout should be.
